Transport Design Decision Making

What the project is about?

We are keen to find out how transport design decisions are made, particularly why do ‘bad decisions’ get made, again and again, and how can we support ‘good’ decision-making in the future.

What it seeks to do?

This project will engage with transport design stakeholders to better understand the design processes they work to. Analysis of these working practices will enable us to propose an exemplar process that guarantees good outcomes for disabled people in the design of future transport systems.

How it seeks to do it?

The project will identify and engage with design professionals through one to one interviews and other established research methods.

What we’ve done so far?

We developed a survey for people working in the transport design sector.
The survey aimed to find what factors influence design decisions.

A researcher at Coventry University (CU) initially designed and created the survey in software called Qualtrics.

The survey design was then reviewed by two CU researchers and two experts from ncat.

The survey was posted on LinkedIn, along with a supporting article.
22 surveys were received as data to review.

The survey included responses from people living in England, Scotland, and Australia.

It included responses from professionals from the transport sector working on trains and cars, and also responses from individuals working in senior roles and early career roles.
