Document summary

Almost every journey we take involves using the pedestrian environment. In 2012 Imtac published a report highlighting the barriers experienced by older people and disabled people using the pedestrian environment. Based on feedback from disabled and older people the report illustrated how unnecessary barriers make even simple journeys difficult. These difficulties make broader travel, including using public transport, more difficult for disabled and older people and have a major impact on undertaking day-to-day activities. Following the publication of the 2012 report Imtac has undertaken a series of “walking audits” in locations across Northern Ireland. The purpose of this report is to look at lessons learned from these audits
